Liam Payne says he’s been sober for ‘over 100 days’: ‘I feel amazing’

Liam Payne revealed that he “feels amazing” after not reaching for the booze for over 100 days.

“I’m sober now over 100 days,” the One Direction alum told iFL TV this week after being complimented on his appearance.

“I feel amazing. I feel really, really good, and the support from the fans has been really, really good, so I’m super happy.”

The “Strip That Down” hitmaker, 29, previously said he hit “rock bottom” during his time in the band due to his use of drugs and alcohol.

“I was worried how far my rock bottom was going to be. Where’s rock bottom for me? And you would never have seen it. I’m very good at hiding it,” Payne said on the “Diary of a CEO” podcast in 2021. “No one would ever have seen it.”

The pop star expressed how much his abuse of alcohol had affected his mental health at the height of global stardom.

“There were a few pictures of me on a boat, and I was all bloated out,” Payne explained at the time. “I call it my pills-and-booze face. My face was just, like, 10 times more than it is now.”

“I just didn’t like myself very much, and then I made a change,” he added.

Payne previously said that because he and his former bandmates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, got so famous so quickly, they often turned to their hotel mini bars.Payne previously said that because he and his former bandmates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, got so famous so quickly, they often turned to their hotel mini bars.FilmMagicLiam PayneThe “Strip That Down” hitmaker, 29, previously said he hit “rock bottom” during his time in the band due to his use of drugs and alcohol.liampayne/Instagram

Payne also recalled that he and his former bandmates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik often had to stay in their hotel rooms and turn to the minibar due to their rising fame.

“So, at a certain point, I just thought, ‘Well, I’m going to have a party for one,’ and that just seemed to carry on throughout many years of my life,” he said.

“And then you look back at how long you’ve been drinking, and it’s [like], ‘Jesus Christ, that’s a long time,’ even for someone who was as young as I was. It was wild, but it was the only way you could get the frustration out in the day.”

The singer, who shares son Bear, 6, with his ex-girlfriend singer Cheryl, told Men’s Health Australia in 2019 about the struggles he had to face as a member of one of the most successful boy bands in the world.

“It’s almost like putting the Disney costume on before you step up on stage and underneath the Disney costume I was pissed quite a lot of the time because there was no other way to get your head around what was going on,” he said at the time.

“I mean, it was fun. We had an absolute blast, but there were certain parts of it where it just got a little bit toxic.”
