Platoon - ITV 4 - 11pm

In our pick for this evening, a new US recruit (Charlie Sheen) in the Vietnam war finds himself caught in a battle of wills between two sergeants, one good (Willem Dafoe) and the other evil (Tom Berenger).


Featuring nail-bitingly tense action set-pieces, scenes of unflinching violence and a flawless cast, which also includes Forest Whitaker, John C. McGinley and a young Johnny Depp, Platoon is one the most visceral films ever made about the horrors of war.

After making The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow directed this tense and timely drama about one of the largest race riots in US history. John Boyega of Star Wars fame leads the ensemble cast.


The Girl in the Spider's Web - Channel 4 - 11.40pm


In the latest cinematic take on Stieg Larsson's Millenium book series, young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (The Crown's Claire Foy) finds herself caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.


While nowhere near as strong as David Fincher's previous The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Foy makes for a good Salander.
