One of the best war films ever made is among the movies on TV tonight

Starring a young Charlie Sheen, the Vietnam war drama won Best Picture at the Oscars.

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle - E! Entertainment - 9pm

Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu return in this action-comedy sequel.

The Vanishing - Film Four - 9pm

Gerard Butler switches gears to play a lighthouse keeper in this critically acclaimed thriller from 2018.

Fright Night - Horror Channel - 9pm

This very fun 80's comedy horror centres on a teenager who discovers that his next-door neighbor is a vampire.

Chaplin - TG4 - 9.05pm

Robert Downey Jr scored an Oscar nomination for playing legendary British comedian Charlie Chaplin in this biopic.

The Man with the Iron Heart - RTÉ2 - 9.20

Jason Clarke, Rosamund Pike and our own Jack Reynor are among the cast in this historical action-thriller focusing on the assassination of Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich in Prague during World War II.

Deadpool - Channel 4 - 9.30pm

Ryan Reynolds is the "merc with a mouth" in this entertaining, fast-paced, violent send-up of superhero movies.

Platoon - ITV 4 - 11pm

In our pick for this evening, a new US recruit (Charlie Sheen) in the Vietnam war finds himself caught in a battle of wills between two sergeants, one good (Willem Dafoe) and the other evil (Tom Berenger).

Featuring nail-bitingly tense action set-pieces, scenes of unflinching violence and a flawless cast, which also includes Forest Whitaker, John C. McGinley and a young Johnny Depp, Platoon is one the most visceral films ever made about the horrors of war.

Detroit - BBC Two - 11.15pm

After making The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow directed this tense and timely drama about one of the largest race riots in US history. John Boyega of Star Wars fame leads the ensemble cast.

The Girl in the Spider's Web - Channel 4 - 11.40pm

In the latest cinematic take on Stieg Larsson's Millenium book series, young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (The Crown's Claire Foy) finds herself caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.

While nowhere near as strong as David Fincher's previous The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Foy makes for a good Salander.
