Princess Diana’s final lover Dodi Fayed gets ‘The Crown’ treatment

Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed’s ill-fated romance is back in the public eye.

Season five of Netflix’s “The Crown” will dive deep into the love affair between the late couple. The Princess of Wales and the Egyptian film producer both died during a car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997.

Photos of the actor playing Fayed, Khalid Abdalla, as well as snaps from set were released and gave fans another glimpse at the upcoming season.

Abdalla rocked Fayed’s mustache, jeans and a long olive coat while shooting. The actor was filming a scene for the series that showed Fayed on set of the 1981 sports drama “Chariots of Fire.”

Fayed was an executive producer on the project at the time. Abdalla was also joined by actor Salim Dau, who portrays the late filmmaker’s father and former owner of Harrod’s, Mohammed al-Fayed.

Another photo from “The Crown” set featured Abdalla walking on the beach and talking with his on-screen dad.

The upcoming season will show the royal family as they encounter changes, tragedies and triumphs throughout the 1990s.

Elizabeth Debicki will be embodying the People’s Princess and Dominic West will be playing her ex-husband Prince Charles. Imelda Staunton will portray Queen Elizabeth II and Jonathan Pryce is making a return to the series as her late husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Fayed and Diana pursued a relationship with each other in July 1997, just a few weeks before their untimely deaths. Mohammed had invited Diana and her sons Prince William and Prince Harry, aboard his yacht that fateful summer.

On the day of their passings, the couple had stopped in Paris while on their way to London. The pair had spent almost 10 days together, vacationing in the French and Italian Rivieras.

Harry, 37, shed some light on his mother’s relationship with Fayed in his Apple TV series “The Me You Can’t See.” Speaking of his wife Meghan Markle and the alleged racism she faced, “History was repeating itself. My mother was chased to her death while she was in a relationship with someone that wasn’t white and now look what’s happened.”

“You wanna talk about history repeating itself? They’re not gonna stop until she dies. It’s incredibly triggering to potentially lose another woman in my life,” he added.

Season five of the hit royal drama recently wrapped production early just before the upcoming holidays. Eight crew members tested positive for COVID-19. The show will resume production come January.

“The Crown” is set to return to Netflix in November 2022.
