Selena Gomez calls fan an ‘ass’ for criticizing her ‘joke’ about drinking

Selena Gomez called a fan an “ass” for criticizing her drinking years after she underwent a kidney transplant.

In a TikTok posted on Tuesday, Gomez recorded herself reacting to Dr. Dawn Bantel discussing what it means to be a “heavy” drinker.

“The [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] defines heavy drinking as 15 or more drinks a week for men and eight or more drinks per week for women,” Bantel said.

While duetting the clip, Gomez nervously bit her nails and mouthed, “Oh,” as her facial expression turned wary.

“So one of your best friends gives you her kidney and you continue to drink excessively. Damn selena,” someone commented on a TikTok video, which ironically doesn’t even feature the singer drinking.

“It was a joke ass,” the “Only Murders in the Building” star shot back.

The 29-year-old — who also captioned the video explaining it was a joke — received a kidney from her friend Francia Raisa in 2017 following complications from her lupus diagnosis.

Although those who receive a kidney donation are still able to drink alcohol, the National Kidney Foundation advises that women consume no more than one drink per day, while men should have no more than one to two.

“The kidneys of heavy drinkers have to work harder,” the Foundation’s website reads. “Heavy drinking on a regular basis has been found to double the risk for kidney disease.”

Gomez told “Today” at the time at the time of her surgery, “My kidneys were just done. That was it, and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life. The thought of asking someone to do that was really difficult for me. She volunteered and did it. And let alone someone wanting to volunteer, it is incredibly difficult to find a match. The fact that she was a match, I mean that’s unbelievable. That’s not real.”

She has since criticized “The Good Fight” and Peacock’s “Saved By the Bell” reboot, which mocked her lupus diagnosis and kidney transplant.

“I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplant for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently,” she wrote on Twitter in August 2020. “I hope in the next writer’s room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it’s called out immediately and doesn’t make it on air. My fans always have my back. LOVE YOU.”
