Seth Rogen Shades The Academy Awards, ‘People Just Don’t Care’

The Academy Awards are getting some serious shade from Seth Rogen.

The “Pam & Tommy” star recently sat down with “Knocked Up” co-star, Paul Rudd, for Insider.

The two actors star in a new Lay’s potato chips commercial for Super Bowl LVI.

For Rogen, the hype surrounding the Academy Awards is baffling.

“I don’t get why movie people care so much if other people care what awards we give ourselves,” he told Rudd. “To me, maybe people just don’t care.”

He put his views on the Oscars into perspective telling Rudd, “I don’t care who wins the automobile awards. No other industry expects everyone to care about what awards they shower upon themselves. Maybe people just don’t care. Maybe they did for a while and they stopped caring. And why should they?”

Why Should People Care About The Academy Awards?!?

In recent years, ratings for the Academy Awards have slipped drastically and the Academy has made major changes to try and increase viewership.

For example, they’ve gotten rid of a sole host and tried shortening the show by getting rid of original song performances.

Still, those minute changes have not helped increase viewership.

Per Insider, last year’s Oscars, which was scaled down due to the pandemic, drew the lowest ratings in the show’s history with under 10 million watching.

This year, the Oscars will resort back to its old ways by having a host. In recent months, Pete Davidson was in talks to host the big show, but that rumor was later debunked.

Then rumors surfaced that Selena Gomez and her “Only Murder In The Building” co-stars, Martin Short and Steve Martin could be potential Oscars host contenders.

No official host has been confirmed as of now.

Rogen previously expressed his distaste for Hollywood award shows during the 2021 Emmy Awards.

Last year’s Emmys were held in September during the height of the second wave of COVID-19.

Sunday, September 19,2021, marked the first time in two years that the Emmy Awards took place with a live audience. Due to the ongoing pandemic, there was no live audience for the award show in 2020.

It took place in a massive tent where celebrities, in the flesh, gathered to accept their Emmy award rather than remotely.

Rogen was the first award presenter of the evening, and during his speech he made it a point to express concern about the massive crowd gathered in non-open-air room.

“Let me start by saying there is way too many of us in this little room,” Rogen said. “What are we doing? They said this was outdoors. It’s not! They lied to us! We’re in a hermetically sealed tent right now!”

Rogen noted that he wouldn’t have even come to the Emmys had he been made aware of the setup.

He called the Emmy Award ceremony setup ‘insane’ and posed the question, “why is there a roof?”

The “Superbad” actor then joked, “It’s more important that we have three chandeliers than that we don’t kill Eugene Levy tonight.”

Despite most of his opening monologue having a joking undertone, he still made a very important point.

“I went from wiping my groceries to having Paul Bettany sneeze in my face, so that’s a big week,” he continued to joke to the audience.

He capped it off, “alright, that’s all the jokes I wrote.”
