How popular is YouTube Shorts? The TikTok-style format is generating so many views that three-month-old channels are now able to top our global top 50.

That’s the story this week, as a relative newcomer sits above T-Series, Lanky Box, and all the rest. Read on to learn which channel I’m talking about.

Chart Toppers

Funny Family is #1. If you haven’t heard of this YouTube channel, it’s because it only launched back in July. Since then, its collection of short-form clips have picked up more than 1.5 billion total views, about half of which came within the last week. Over seven days, Funny Family added 760.6 million weekly views, which put it at the top of our ranking of the 50 most-viewed YouTube channels in the world.

There’s a gap of about 200 million weekly views between Funny Family and this week’s global #2, SET India. The latter channel, which offers TV-adjacent content to its South Asian audience, scooped up 558.9 million weekly views during our most recent measurement period. One week after surpassing 100 billion lifetime views, SET India has a nice start on its way to 200 billion.

Up next is T-Series. The Indian channel, which appears so often at the top of this chart, is #3 this week. The record label’s 533.6 million weekly views are still quite impressive, and it continues to add subscribers at a rapid rate; by the end of the year, it should count more than 200 million of them.

This week’s global #4, Sony SAB, is a lot like SET India. Both are Sony-owned channels that are tied to terrestrial TV stations in South Asia. Sony SAB’s latest seven-day viewership tops out at 448.8 million weekly views, which is a little less than what it picked up the week prior. As a result, it fell from second place in our global ranking down to fourth.

Emir Tarık Ateş rounds out this week’s global top five. The Turkish channel, which is popular on YouTube Shorts, moved up 38 places in our global chart after pulling in 446.5 million weekly views.

Top Gainers

There is a great YouTube tradition of crushing things for fun. Way back in the day, Tom Dickson asked “will it blend?” More recently, the Hydraulic Press Channel used industrial-grade equipment to viral effect. Now, there’s Scottsreality.

The Netherlands-based channel, which is popular on YouTube Shorts, made it into our global top 50 this week. The tenor of the channel’s TikTok-style videos is pretty consistent: Take object, grind up object in mortar and pestle, then use object to craft some other, unlikely object. In one clip, a few beer bottles become a round ball thanks to the addition of some water. It’s an eco-friendly toy, though it might slice your hand open if you play with it too forcefully.

Scottsreality’s micro-video success underscores a theme of YouTube Shorts that I’ve highlighted before. The short-form platform is bringing old-school trends back into the fold, and creators are reaping millions of views as a result.

During the first full week of October, Scottsreality picked up 131.7 million weekly views, which was good enough to make it a rare Dutch delight within our global top 50. That viewership figure is 65% higher than the one the channel posted a week ago, and it was enough traffic to boost Scottsreality up to 47th place in our global chart. I hope this channel grows big enough to receive a golden play button, so that we might see if it’s possible to grind that gold-plated reward into a ball.
