Travis Scott can celebrate one win from his 2021 Astroworld Festival.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the lawsuit over financial loss incurred at the concert has been dismissed without prejudice.
Ceremony Of Roses Has Dropped Its Legal Battle Against Travis Scott
MEGAAshlee Lin, on behalf of Ceremony of Roses, has filed for a dismissal of the lawsuit stemming from their allegations that they suffered a significant financial loss in connection with the infamous festival.
The legal papers note that it wants “Entire action of all parties and all causes of action” flung out of the court, meaning that the court’s decision fully concludes the entire dispute, including all claims and counterclaims raised by the parties involved.
Notably, Lin asks that the case the courts “Dismiss without prejudice,” allowing her and her clients to bring the same lawsuit again in the future. The dismissal was entered on March 22.
CoR in its original lawsuit claimed that their goal, when they collaborated with Scott and Live Nation, was to offer attendees additional attractions at the event.
These activities, encompassing “carnival-style games and amusements on the Festival grounds,” were intended to elevate the fan experience, boost ticket sales, and encourage concert attendees to remain on-site and continue spending.
Ultimately, it was determined that CoR was the most suitable entity to oversee the Amusements. The global media company subsequently reached an agreement with Scoremore Holdings, a promoter designated by Live Nation for this endeavor.
CoR Spent At Least $700k During The Festival
MEGAAs the lawsuit stipulated, the agreement tasked CoR with financing, establishing, operating, and dismantling the amusements, with the entitlement to recoup its initial costs and 50% of subsequent revenues.
CoR’s decision to proceed with the deal was supported by Live Nation’s organization of the Astroworld Festival and a reasonable expectation that it would be conducted in a high-quality, safe, and secure environment.
The branding outfit also expected Scott and XXG to prioritize safety and professionalism while attracting a large crowd of fans who would remain on-site and spend money on various forms of entertainment, including amusements.
However, due to their failure in this regard, the cancellation of Astroworld prevented CoR from recovering its initial expenses and resulted in the complete loss of its anticipated profits.
Although the filing did not specify the exact amount sought for compensation, it disclosed that CoR had incurred a minimum of $700k in out-of-pocket expenses for the setup and operation of the amusements at the event.
Scott’s Lawyer Seemingly Pointed Fingers At US Government For Astroworld Tragedy
Despite the criticism Scott faced in the aftermath of the Astroworld disaster, he was not criminally charged in connection with the heartbreaking occurrence.
According to The Blast, the 32-year-old superstar faced multiple lawsuits, along with Epic Records, Live Nation, Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation, and various other businesses and event organizers.
These lawsuits promptly led to widespread speculation regarding whether Scott would face criminal charges. An answer was soon provided when the Harris County District Attorney found insufficient evidence to support such charges.
Following the June 2023 ruling, the “Love Galore” hitmaker’s attorney, Kent Schaffer, informed US media that the decision “confirms what we have known all along—that Travis Scott is not responsible for the Astroworld tragedy.”
Schaffer added that since “this chapter” had become closed, he was hopeful that the government will “focus on what is most important—stopping future heartbreaking tragedies like AstroWorld from ever occurring again.”
Fans Were Outraged With Scott’s Recent Show Cancelation
Later in December, Scott unceremoniously dropped out of his performance at the United Center, Chicago. The venue shared the update in a statement that read:
“Travis Scott’s show at United Center scheduled for tonight (December 15, 2023) has been postponed. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date one announced. More information will be posted here and emailed to ticket holders directly when available.”
Fans were upset because the statement did not contain a new date and provided no explanation for the singer-songwriter’s absence.
Taking their grievances to his Instagram page, one person wrote, “Travis [I] just drove 5 hours to United Center no way you [just] postponed.”
Another expressed, “You did Chicago so dirty bro I was so ready for tonight, man why didn’t you give an earlier notice?”
It Took Travis Scott A While Before He Could Make Music Again
Meanwhile, Scott opened up about losing ten of his fans at the Astroworld Festival in an interview, describing his emotions about tragedy as “devastating.” In his words:
“I always think about it. Those fans were like my family. You know, I love my fans to the utmost. I was just overly devastated. It has its moments where it gets rough. You just feel for those people. And their families.”
The incident had such an impact on his mental health while working on his album, “Utopia,” that it took “months and months and months” after that night to regain his focus and return to creating music.
Scott disclosed, “Making music, you think about things that go on in life and things that happen in your life, and you dial in on things. That moment for families, for the city, you know, it was devastating.”
