Wellington Love has started the w/Love production company, and already has an inaugural slate of projects lined up.
After more than three decades working in various film business capacities — including distribution, festival direction, and publicity — Love made the leap into producing as co-producer of Lee Daniels’ The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021), for which Andra Day was an Academy Award nominee and a Golden Globe Award winner.
His latest producing project is Daniel Peddle’s feature documentary Beyond the Aggressives: 25 Years Later. Peddle’s follow-up to his groundbreaking documentary The Aggressives will debut on Paramount+ with the Paramount+ with Showtime Plan on Saturday, March 30th. Beyond the Aggressives revisits principals from the previous feature, uniting two generations of queer BIPOC in conversation and in action. Love reflects, “I’ve had the extraordinary privilege of supporting some of the most talented artists in our industry. My early days in distribution entailed working with such seminal creators as Nam June Paik, Joan Jonas, and William Wegman; my time as a festival executive director spotlighted filmmakers including Cheryl Dunye, Isaac Julien, and Lisa Cholodenko; and my years of publicity campaigns were for acclaimed writer/directors such as Barry Jenkins, Dee Rees, and Justin Simien. In this next chapter as producer of both scripted and unscripted projects, I hope to continue collaborating with visionary filmmakers who share a passion for telling great stories.”
Love’s next project as producer is already in the post-production phase; the documentary feature I Was Born This Way is co-directed by Academy Award winner Daniel Junge (Saving Face) and Academy Award nominee Sam Pollard (4 Little Girls). Projects in development at w/Love include Peddle’s narrative feature Rose Moon, about a female parole officer who has a tempestuous affair with her parolee; and the limited series Uncle Bobby, created by novelist Tim Murphy (Christodora), in which a young man travels back in time to try to prevent his uncle’s death from AIDS.
Love began his career in 1989 at Electronic Arts Intermix, an international resource for film, video and media art. In 1993 he became Executive Director of NewFest, New York’s international LGBTQIA+ film festival and in 2001 he founded the independent film communications agency 15minutes. With longtime collaborator Effie Brown (The Inspection) of Gamechanger Films, Love produced Spread the Vote’s 2020 PSA campaign #WorkThePolls, which incorporated spots directed by Academy Award nominee Gabourey Sidibe and Golden Globe Award nominee John Cameron Mitchell.
Love is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is based in New York City.
