EXCLUSIVE: Yes Studios‘ powerful documentary about the Supernova Music Festival, the site where the October 7 massacre began, has been sold to its first international territory.
Norway’s VGTV has picked up #NOVA and the single doc will launch in the Nordic nation this week.
#NOVA uses self-shot and mostly exclusive footage from festival attendees to chronicle, minute-by-minute, the tragic events of the day when Hamas militants attacked the festival, killing more than 300 partygoers and kidnapping a further 40. The film portrays real-time reactions and emotions to the horror.
#NOVA aired on yes TV late last year and was one of the first docs announced after October 7. We hear distributor yes Studios is negotiating with a number of other buyers as the devastating Israel-Hamas conflict passes the six month mark.
“We are now six months on from the Nova festival and as the war continues and narratives shift daily, we are seeing new interest in this film from a range of broadcasters,” said yes MD Sharon Levi. “#NOVA documents the brutal start of the war, an important moment in history, and captures different viewpoints without a conventional news agenda. Importantly, it also serves as a reminder that we still don’t know the fate of some of the young people kidnapped on this day.”
Levi praised Norway’s VGTV for having a “reputation for acquiring big, high-quality documentaries for its audience.”
#NOVA was produced by Kastina Communications for yes Docu, with Dan Pe-er directing.
A number of other docs are being made about those tragic days in October including We Will Dance Again from Bad Boys studio Sipur and a feature about sexual atrocities committed by Hamas fronted by Sheryl Sandberg.
