Pete Davidson’s OSCARS Hosting Gig Is A No-Go, Selena Gomez Replacing Him?

Pete Davidson will NOT be gracing your TV screen come Oscars time.

The ‘SNL’ star was in talks to host the big night in Hollywood.

The Blast reported on January 12 the exciting news. Kim Kardashian’s new BF is a hot TV commodity right now.

He recently co-hosted “Miley Cyrus’ New Year’s Eve Party” on NBC with Miley Cyrus in addition to being a cast member on “Saturday Night Live.”

This year marks the first time the show will have a host since 2018, which means whoever is chosen has some huge shoes to fill.

Pete Davidson Was Being Eyed To Host Oscars

It looked like Davidson was one of the contenders to enter the spotlight and join the legendary list of past hosts as it seems the producers for the 94th annual ceremony are ‘in talks’ with Davidson’s team.

“His people are talking to producers,” a source told Page Six. It seems the show is looking for a “reset” in order to gravitate to a younger audience the source also expressed. To add to Davidson’s case, the source shared the ratings for Davidson’s appearance with Mileyfor the New Year’s Eve special which brought in 6.3 million viewers.

“He gets a demographic that is hard to get,” the source said of Davidson’s appeal. “He is in a good space, his career is doing well and he is on the rise. He is a sex symbol, unlikely, but he is big with a certain generation.”

However, his Oscar’s hosting future is looking dim.

In an exclusive report from Variety, Davidson will NOT be hosting the 2022 Oscars.

An insider says an informal conversation took place with Davidson’s team, but that’s it.

Many people familiar with the host search said it’s highly unlikely he will be selected for the gig.

And there’s a big reason why he won’t get the gig.

‘SNL’ airs on NBC which is a direct competitor to ABC who airs the Academy Awards.

Variety reports the 28-year-old is too closely associated with NBC and not part of the talent stable within ABC.

Too bad, so sad.

BUT, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Another millennial and Gen-Z fave is reportedly being looked at to fill-in hosting duties.

Selena Gomez could possibly play the role of Oscars host alongside her “Only Murders In The Building” co-stars, Steve Martin and Martin Short.

The outlet reports that individuals involved with the Oscars telecast are intrigued by the idea of bringing together the comedic legends (Martin has hosted the Oscars twice before) and one of the most popular young, multi-talented performers in Hollywood.

Only Oscar Hosts In The Building

“I mean, they are an iconic trio,” Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment president Craig Erwich told Variety this week of Gomez, Martin and Short, touting the Hulu comedy. “They have mass appeal. Everybody loves them. They’d be a dream. That said, there’s a lot of incredible talent we’re considering. We’re having ongoing conversations with Will and the Academy about it.”

Oscars producer Will Packer will have the final say about who hosts the annual award show.

Sources tell Variety that no decision has been made, conversations remain ongoing and there is no frontrunner at this point.
