Piers Morgan marks five years of working with 'lucky devil' Susanna Reid on GMB

Their banter-filled relationship brightens up many mornings.

And on Monday, Piers Morgan, 55, and Susanna Reid, 49, marked five years of gracing Good Morning Britain together, as the journalist recalled his first day on the show, in which he had to perform a ‘ridiculous’ parody of Last Christmas.

While admitting he was left wondering what he had done after leaving his job on CNN to appear on the ITV show, Susanna thanked the whole team for their ‘patience and endurance’ in having the cantankerous star on the show.

Susanna was the first signing to GMB during its £1.5m inauguration in 2014, where she presented alongside Ben Shephard, before Piers took over the following year.

As they marked their half-decade anniversary, Piers both chatted about their time on the show and also took to Twitter to celebrate the milestone.

He said: ‘It’s the 5th anniversary of Susanna and I working together on this programme’, to which Susanna quipped: ‘I would like to say congratulations to our entire team and all credit to your patience and endurance.’

Mocking outrage, Piers hit back: ‘And their what? Yeah whatever. It’s all down to you’, while Susanna admitted: ‘There’s quite a lot to put up with’.

Piers recalled: ‘I remember my first week they made us do a parody of Last Christmas and I remember thinking, I’ve gone from being a CNN news anchor to this.’

Susanna explained how she found out about him joining, as she said: “Five years ago when the Editor walked into my dressing room and said, ‘We have a proposal, which is Piers Morgan might come and sit next to you on the programme’…

‘I had to take my microphone off because I didn’t want anybody else to hear my reaction to that news. Five years, congratulations, well done, you have put up with a lot as well.”

Lorraine Kelly got in on the action, as she penned: ‘Happy Anniversary! Surely there must be some sort of medal that can be awarded to @susannareid100…

‘[The medal] for her patience, endurance and awe inspiring restraint in not pressing the button on ejector seat I secretly had fitted xxx’.

She revealed: ‘“I think he winds me up even more now. We still have rows off air. At the moment he is quite a wind up because he has a very, very strong views.’

On the positives, she said: ‘We are very honest and frank with each other and I trust him completely. If something isn’t right, we will discuss it in a very frank way.’
