Dave Chappelle surprises Talib Kweli’s audience at Blue Note

That’s what friends are for.

Dave Chappelle lent a comedic hand at hip-hop pal Talib Kweli’s show at the Blue Note in New York on Thursday.

The comedian surprised the audience by introducing his longtime pal before Kweli took the stage with his band, The Whiskey Boys, we’re told.

“Him and Yasiin Bey [formerly known as Mos Def], out of all the people in showbiz is probably who I’m closest to,” Chappelle shared with the crowd as he sipped a drink on stage.

Chappelle also talked about Kweli and Bey as the rap duo Black Starr, and promised that 2022 would be “the year of the reunification” of the band.

“Hip hop’s dynamic duo is returning — and tonight you get to meet one of the finest emcees that Brooklyn has ever produced,” Chappelle said. “And Brooklyn’s made some good ones. Rest in peace B.I.G,” he added.

There were some in the crowd who were recording Chappelle’s intro on their phones, despite his plea that they don’t document the moment. “If you see me, put the motherf–kin’ cell phones down,” he said.

He added that, “It is too hot on these streets. They are out here killing playas.”

Chappelle notoriously bans cell phones from his public appearances — even at parties that aren’t his.

The controversial comic, who just announced he’s making four new comedy specials for Netflix, banned phones at Robert Pattinson’s “after after party” for “The Batman” premiere, spies told Page Six. But Jason Momoa’s photographer bestie, Jason Roman, was there to capture all the action from that party.
