Sam Smith banned from dating apps after catfish mix-up

Sam Smith revealed they were booted from online dating after apps didn’t believe their accounts were real.

The “Unholy” singer, who identifies as non-binary and uses “they/them” pronouns, said in a new interview that Tinder and Hinge feared someone was impersonating them and subsequently deleted their accounts.

“I never did Grindr,” Smith, 30, told “ET Canada” Monday. “I did Tinder once; I think I got chucked off of Tinder. I got chucked off of Hinge because they thought that I wasn’t me.”

The Grammy winner did, however, admit that they “didn’t verify” their profiles.

“I should have done that,” they said.

However, Smith added that they have “always been able to date” despite their busy music career.

If the “Stay With Me” crooner were able to dive back into the online dating pool, they shared that their profile’s bio would be dedicated to their love for their dog Velma.

“She taught me how to love,” they said of the pooch. “I really feel like I don’t think I loved anyone other than my family and friends and stuff. … She’s really taught me that.

“I miss her loads, by the way; I haven’t seen her in ages.”

While Smith is known for being pretty tight-lipped about their love life, they were recently spotted looking cozy with New York City-based designer Christian Cowan.

The “Latch” performer was photographed walking arm in arm with Cowan last week and even treated him to a kiss on the head.

While it’s not known when the pair kickstarted their potential relationship, they were first seen together with President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House in December 2022 for the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act.

Smith recently told British GQ, “I’ve only had three boyfriends. All of them, equally, were just incredible teachers.”

The hitmaker said they do not need “another person to direct me to me,” explaining, “I direct them to me myself. Because I know who I am. And it’s beautiful. Every single relationship is different. Every two people are different. And I think it’s just learning your own language together.”
