Second Annual ‘Gayming Awards’ To Air Live On Twitch In April

The Gayming Awards are coming back for an IRL gathering in April 2022 with a little help from presenting sponsor Twitch.

The ceremony, celebrating the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to the gaming industry, was first held in Feb. 2021 in London, hosted by comedian Suzi Ruffell. The awards are the property of three-year-old Gayming Magazine, which was founded by the entrepreneur Robin Gray to cover all things queer geek culture. Last February’s digital-only event — which aired live on Twitch — clocked 150,000 unique viewers.

Categories serve to commemorate game developers, publishers, and individuals. An expanded slate of categories for the sophomore event will be unveiled in October, and nominations will open up later this year. The Gayming Awards  will take place in-person in London — with an exclusive Twitch broadcast.

Returning sponsors include Xbox, EA, Green Man Gaming, and Hangar 13/2K.

“The LGBTQIA+ community makes an unprecedented and invaluable contribution to the video game landscape,” Matt Webster, Twitch’s senior director of marketing for EMEA, said in a statement. “We can’t wait to collaborate closely over the coming months and make next year’s event even more successful, both in person and live on Twitch.”
