Marvel and DC arguments are some of the most popular topics when talking about superheroes. According to fans, the comic universes are obviously in a rivalry with neither the victor, at least not yet.
Andy Serkis is one of the few actors to have played roles in both universes, and as expected, fans have questions. His movies in the Marvel universe include “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Black Panther.” On the other hand, his recent appearance in DC is as Alfred Pennyworth in the recent “The Batman” movie.
When asked how he felt about the alleged rival comic universes, Serkis revealed that he loved different aspects of both worlds. He described Marvel as bold and bright while referring to DC as a more dark-themed place. He also added that the universes “touch on real human emotions.”
Serkis Worked With DC And Marvel
MEGASerkis’ major breakout role was as Gollum in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and Ceaser in “Planet of the Apes” movies directed by Matt Reeves. Besides those early movie roles, Serkis also has quite a bit of a backstory with both DC and Marvel.
The actor starred as Ulysses Kilauea in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and was a character in “Black Panther.” Serkis also recently voiced a character in the “What If…?” animated series. Not only did bag acting roles, but Serkis also directed the Marvel “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” released last year.
The “Inkheart” actor is switching sides now with his appearance in the recent DC movie. Serkis debuted as Alfred Pennyworth in the recently released “The Batman.”
Serkis’ Response When Asked About Marvel And DC
Since the actor worked with both worlds, questions about his time are expected. In a recent interview on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” the actor was asked about his opinions on the two comic universes.

Serkis responded by first joking about his employment status then giving reasons why he loved both worlds. “I was just thinking, ‘Who’s gonna employ me the most after this moment,?'” he joked. “No, look, I love both worlds… I love the brightness and the boldness of Marvel stories. They’re all mythologies. And I do like the darkness of DC.”
The Marvel actor continued, “They touch on real human emotions, on world events, on what’s going on around us. They are great allegories for our times.”
Serkis Is Alfred In ‘The Batman’
MEGAFans are definitely eager to see the “Black Panther” actor do justice to Alfred in the just-released “The Batman” movie. His role predecessors include Micheal Gough, Michael Caine, and Jeremy Irons.
In a 2021 interview with ScreenRant, the actor said, “I’ve been totally forbidden to speak about ‘The Batman’ of course. But what I will say is that I’m pretty certain Matt Reeves, who is a very dear friend of mine and of course we’ve worked together on the ‘Planet of the Apes’ movies; I know for a fact he’s making a pretty amazing picture. I really think it’s going to be special.”
In a separate interview with LADBible, the actor talked about the emotional connection between Batman and his Butler and Reeves’ mastery in scriptwriting. He said, “It’s very much about the emotional connection between Alfred and Bruce. That’s really at the center of it. And it is a really exquisite script that Matt has written.”
‘The Batman’ Was Just Released
“The Batman” movie was released on March 4. The film starred Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and Batman. The Reeves-directed movie also has Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dino as Riddler, and Colin Farrell as Penguin.
The movie had a bit of pushback due to the global pandemic, but despite that and the almost 3 hour run time, it still had a lot of positive reviews. According to previous interviews, this version of the caped crusader will have an even darker side than the previous movies.
Pattinson as Batman will apparently be more realistic and less of a lady’s man than his predecessors. Other actors in the superhero movie include John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Bella Real, Barry Keoghan as Officer Stanley Merkel, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson.
