Star Wars: third live-action series confirmed for Disney+

Disney might be pumping the brakes on Star Wars movies for a little while after Episode IX, but there will still be plenty of new live-action series to watch between 2019 and when the next movie arrives in 2022. Disney CEO Bob Iger, speaking at a media presentation attended by Deadline, confirmed that a third live-action series will join The Mandalorian and the Cassian Andor Rogue One prequel on Disney's on-demand streaming service, Disney+.

While Iger didn't reveal the title, subject matter, or release date of the third series, he did confirm that it will premiere by 2022. With The Mandalorian set to premiere in November and Cassian Andor planned for some time after that, it's likely we won't hear much more about this mystery series in earnest until next year.

Without much actual information to go on, what might the third series be about? Disney has a track record thus far of setting all of its projects within the Skywalker era -- that is, somewhere between Episode I and IX. The Mandalorian will follow suit, taking place a few years after Return Of The Jedi, while Cassian Andor will likely be set a few years before Rogue One. Does this mean that the third series will also explore some aspect of the Skywalker Saga?

Recently, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy teased that the studio was working on something related to the beloved Knights Of The Old Republic series of games, books, and comics, all of which are set thousands of years before the civil war between the Empire and the Rebellion. She wasn't referring to a potential live-action series specifically, and rumour has it that she might have actually been talking about a movie, but could this tease be the answer?

"You know, we talk about that all the time," Kennedy told MTV News regarding Knights Of The Old Republic. "Yes, we are developing something to look at. Right now I have no idea where things might fall, but we have to be careful that there is a cadence to Star Wars that doesn't start to feel like too much."

All speculation at the moment, but wouldn't it be cool to watch this era unfold in a TV series? Either way, we'll keep you updated as we hear more.
