Sunrise ratings get a boost after Sam Armytage and David Koch return full time

Channel Seven’s breakfast television show Sunrise continues to be the leading program across Australia.

And the numbers have seen a boost after hosts Samantha Armytage and David ‘Kochie Koch returned to the couch five days a week.

In the week ending October 9, the popular breakfast show beat their Channel Nine rival, the Today show, every day of the week.

On Tuesday, the program scored 231,000 viewers while Today’s scored just 190,000 viewers.

The trend continued for the rest of the week with Wednesday, seeing Sunrise score 225,000 to Today’s 186,000, Thursday, it scored 231,000 to 204,000 and on Friday 225,000 to 202,000.

Samantha, 43, and Kochie, 64, were previously both working a four day week with Natalie Barr filling in for Sam on Monday’s and Kochie on Fridays.

But according to The Daily Telegraph, Seven news boss Craig McPherson told the presenters that they were needed back full-time.

‘They are back five days a week,’ he confirmed last month.

But, if the ratings are anything to go buy, it appears the change is working.

Samantha chose to take a step back from her on-air responsibilities in favour of a four-day working week in June.

Meanwhile, David confirmed his shorter working week in 2018, explaining ‘his work schedule was taking a toll as there were other things he wanted to do’.
