Queen Elizabeth II Announces Camilla Will Be Queen Consort When Charles Is King

Queen Elizabeth II Announces Camilla Will Be Queen Consort When Charles Is King
When the couple got married, they had announced that Camilla will be using the title “Princess Consort” even though she had the right to use the “Queen Consort” title. At the time, this was out of respect for the late Diana, Princess of Wales, Charles’ first wife and mother to Prince William, and Harry. But there might be a long-due change in the title if all goes well with the Queen’s announcement.

Camilla Bowles Parker has always been somewhat of a villain in the eye of the public, who loved Diana to bits. The hate intensified especially since Diana publically blamed her for the end of her marriage, saying in a much-publicized 1995 interview, saying, “there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

Diana’s sudden death, in a Paris car crash in 1997 further cemented the public’s love for her, and the blame for her tragic end started to fall more and more on Camilla, who retreated to the shadows. Once the public sentiment towards her softened, the couple got married in a small, civil ceremony in 2005.  Royal sentiment has also changed and she’s no longer just the “royal mistress” but a central figure in the royal family.

Queen Elizabeth II Has Made A Positive Announcement

Now, the Queen has made her increasing affection for Camilla well known, as she said, “I would like to express my thanks to you all for your support. I remain eternally grateful for, and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me.”

She then made a remarkable statement, saying, “And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her loyal service.”

Of course, as is protocol, the Queen must have consulted her direct heirs about the formal announcement of the same. And by heirs, we mean Prince Charles and Prince William, considering Prince Harry abdicated the position in favor of a commoner’s life, along with his wife, Meghan Markle.

The 95-year-old Queen also mentioned her late husband, saying, “I was blessed that in Prince Philip I had a partner willing to carry out the role of consort and unselfishly make the sacrifices that go with it. It is a role I saw my own mother perform during my father’s reign.”

The Future Of Monarchy, As Defined By Queen Elizabeth II

This is not the first time Queen Elizabeth II has taken a momentous occasion and turned it into an announcement. She has often used such landmark moments to tell the public of her utter devotion to her duties, even as she nears her 96th birthday. She said, “As we mark this anniversary, it gives me pleasure to renew to you the pledge I gave in 1947 that my life will always be devoted to your service.”

Elizabeth ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI, aged 56. Despite the recent upheaval in the royal family post the royal exit of the Duke and Duchess of  Sussex, Queen Elizabeth II has only positive messages for her countrymen.
She ended her message by saying how she looked forward “to continuing to serve you with all my heart.” Plus, also hoped that this day forth, people could come together again after facing the difficulties of the recent year, referring to the pandemic. That said; Britain’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson is still not having a good day.
