The Omega Male & 15 Traits that Make Him Better than the Alpha Male

The Omega Male & 15 Traits that Make Him Better than the Alpha Male

We’ve all heard about an alpha male, as we hear it all the time. But what about an omega male? Don’t you think they deserve just as much attention?

Omega Male

Usually, when we think of the masculine, we think of strength, competition, domination, and leadership. However, there are many kinds of guys who don’t fit into those stereotypes. Because of this, they don’t get talked about very often. Specifically, we’re talking about an omega male.

It’s funny how even men are categorized into categories, but they are. An alpha male is always looked upon as the most masculine version of a man, but does that mean an omega male falls less in that category?

Well, no, not at all. Both kinds of male species deserve respect and recognition. No way is one above or superior to the other.

What is an omega male?

An omega male is pretty similar to the confidence of an alpha male, but they do not need to be in the center of everything. They’re easygoing and go against the regular norms of what society practices *such as getting married and having a family*. They have their individual paths and aren’t really perceived as leaders.

You’ll find that an omega male has off-the-beaten-path interests that make them who they are. Unlike an alpha male who is basically the life of the party and center of attention, an omega male may be introverted and can be pretty reserved. Some of the most endearing qualities they have are being kind, gentle, and empathetic.

Types of males

Not all men and not all women are the same, although society would like to make us think so. Therefore, it’s really important for all of us to get familiar with the different nuances that make people more unique, regardless of their gender. Primarily, it’s understood that there are 6 types of males.

The alpha male

He’s usually the leader who is confident, enterprising and prefers to be the center of attention.

The beta male

The loyal and submissive male, a beta male is friendly but more reserved than the alpha male.

The omega male

The omega male is the alpha male that doesn’t rely on anyone else or anything else. Extremely driven and self-assured, he is the type of male that never seeks external validation.

The gamma male

The gamma male is empathetic and adventurous, with big dreams and desires, and this makes him a very level-headed type of male.

The delta male

The delta male is reserved and resentful *usually because of a past experience* and is usually the angry and bitter type of male.

The sigma male

The sigma male is the calculative and cunning one, who’s always one step ahead of everyone. Very convincing and witty, a sigma male gets others to do his bidding with his wit and charm.

The difference between the alpha male and the omega male

So, let’s talk about two of the basic types of males, according to mainstream society.

1. Alpha male

The alpha male is your stereotypical “caveman” kind of guy. He wants to stand out in a crowd and be the one who everyone pays attention to. He must be the strongest, the fastest, the smartest, and just the overall best. There’s a lot of pressure for an alpha male to become the best in everything.

After all, alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet for a reason. It’s also why there’s an alpha in a pack of wolves, otherwise known as the pack leader. [Read: How to be an alpha male – Unleash the irresistible inner you]

2. Omega male

Unlike the alpha male, the omega male doesn’t really seek validation from others. Due to this, the kind of glory he seeks doesn’t always depend on external motivation, but depends more on his own desires and wants.

They don’t seek confrontation to prove themselves, instead, they look for things that stimulate and challenge them to get better at something. The omega males have their own distinct and individual personality and interests in life. They have no pressure to go with societal norms, but they go against them.

Characteristics of an omega male

Unfortunately, humans pretty much revere the alpha male. For example, who is the best and most popular player on a football team? The kicker? No. The quarterback. He is the leader of the team. He is the brains behind all the plays. Everyone knows the quarterback’s name. But does anyone know the kicker’s name? Probably not.

That’s sad. And we’re not just talking sports here. Because alpha males are the center of attention, and that’s all a lot of people pay attention to. But the omega male has some awesome qualities as well. So, let’s take a look at some of these things that make an omega male someone you want to get to know. They are…

1. Introverted

Typically, the omega male is somewhat of an introvert. Unlike his alpha male counterpart, he doesn’t need to be the life of the party. He doesn’t need to socialize with everyone or make a certain impression. In fact, his social battery tends to run out, and he would probably need alone time to recharge.

That’s basically an omega male for you. He recharges when he is in his own element, rather than out among people trying to prove that he is the top dog. He’s alone most of the time, and he doesn’t mind. As long as he’s doing the things he enjoys doing, he’s okay with that. [Read: Introvert vs extrovert – Which side are you on?]

2. Laid back

The alpha male is extroverted, charismatic, and the life of the party. But the omega male is much more laid back and even-keeled. He’s easygoing, and we might go as far as even to say down-to-earth. There’s no need to be the best, which is why he generally has a laid-back and pretty chill personality.

He just lets things roll off his shoulders and isn’t in the mindset to “fight” for anything. Instead of making waves, he would just rather shrug and walk the other way. There’s no reason to make such a fuss out of everything, at least for an omega male. [Read: How to be chill and learn to live a happier life as a result]

3. Gentle

They tend to be more gentle in relationships because they’re not as dominant and seemingly testosterone-filled as the alpha male. They might be the guy who rubs your shoulders after a hard day at work. This might surprise you, but omega males can make the best lovers because of their gentle nature.

Maybe that’s cuddling with you or bringing out his hopeless romantic side. Unlike an alpha male, he’s gentle, and he doesn’t try to hide this side of him. [Read: Why introverts are much more than just shy and awkward]

4. Kind

The omega male is not busy trying to show off and be “the man of the hour,” so he is a little more focused on other people. If you need someone to help you move, you should ask an omega male. The term “hero complex” is more associated with an alpha male rather than an omega male.

So you should expect this male type to be kind and helpful, all because it’s in his nature and he wants to help. Most importantly, he had a good and pure heart, and his kindness is just one of his traits that reflect this. [Read: How to be kind to yourself and others & love life instead of hating it]

5. Empathetic

If you see a pattern here, you’re right. Being empathetic means that a person can identify with what someone else is going through. And it goes beyond sympathy *feeling sorry for someone*. An omega male has the ability to put themselves in someone else’s shoes.

So if an omega male has a girlfriend, he naturally has the ability to feel what she feels and connect with her. This is not a quality that many alpha males possess. If anything, it’s a scarce quality you’ll spot in alpha males. [Read: Too empathetic? How to detach yourself for a better life]

6. Prefer deep relationships

An omega male will not have a ton of friends. Because he is introverted and prefers to spend a lot of time alone, he will likely not have a long list of friends on his social media accounts *if he is even on social media*. As an introvert, he prefers deep and meaningful conversations rather than just settling for small talk.

He’ll quickly get bored and distracted when talking about the weather. He prefers trustworthy, life-long friends who he knows he can count on.

Again, he doesn’t need to be friends with every person in the room, but just the ones that matter. [Read: Good friends are like stars – 18 ways to build lasting friendships]

7. Wants to work on his own

The omega male will have friends and close acquaintances, but he likes to work alone. Whether it’s in his profession or on a more personal level, he doesn’t like to belong to a clique or a group. He can think more clearly when he’s working on his own.

Not to mention, it’s also in his nature as an introvert. Unlike the alpha male that possesses leadership qualities and has to be the best in everything, an omega male finds it satisfying to work alone.

8. Not much of an ego

If there are anything men are specifically known for, it’s their egos. However, this is all the more true for alpha males than any other male species. An alpha male is really concerned with how everyone else views them. Because of that, they always want to pump up their ego.

This includes boasting about their accomplishments and anything related to that. But the omega male doesn’t care. They don’t flaunt their ego like alpha males every chance they get. [Read: How your self-respect affects you & the relationships in your life]

In fact, even if they have significant accomplishments and more successes, other people won’t even know because they don’t boast about it. And maybe he won’t even tell his closest friends. He doesn’t need the recognition or notoriety to pump up his ego.

9. Has odd interests

One of the defining traits of an omega male is being an introvert. It’s because of this that he’s picked up a few strange and odd interests that other people don’t get. It often feels like he’s living in his own world because of this.

Even if it seems odd to others, he genuinely enjoys each one of his interests! Even if he’s losing a significant amount of time, he doesn’t care as he finds it worth every second of his time.

10. Friendly

This might be in contrast to being an introvert, but an omega male can be the friendliest male type you come across with. His pleasant and friendly nature is the reason why people are often drawn to him.

Whether you need a refreshing and hospitable personality or someone to listen, an omega male is that guy for you. His social battery may run out occasionally, but when he’s fueled, his friendliness truly is something. A breath of fresh air, you might say.

11. Not competitive

The aspect that differentiates an alpha male from an omega male is the lack of competition. Alpha males are known for going after the ladies with their charisma and high ego, but an omega male? He doesn’t focus on the ladies, but he has eyes on one girl.

So if he goes after her, it’s not for an ego boost or to be better than an alpha male. It’s because he genuinely likes and adores her wholeheartedly. He has the mindset that if she also liked him, there’s no need for playing games.

12. Unaffected by the opinions of others

Alpha males are all for seeking approval and validation from others. That’s just who they are. So even if you end up insulting or teasing an omega male, they wouldn’t care anyway.

Even if you keep throwing insults at him, he won’t care. He knows that the only opinion that matters is his own. So it’s basically pointless to put an omega male down since he doesn’t care about what you have to say. [Read: How to love yourself – The 23 best ways to find self-love & happiness]

13. Charisma

Unlike an alpha male with a dominating personality, an omega male has natural charisma. It’s also why despite being an introvert, people are naturally drawn to them.

This is why they’re more friendly and kind, too! Their natural charisma is one of their most admirable traits. This is what makes him pretty great at relationships, because of both his charming and romantic side! [Read: How to be charismatic and have a better dating life]

14. Values long-lasting relationships

If you’ve gotten to this point, you can tell by now that omega males make the best lovers in relationships. This is because, contrary to the dominating personality of an alpha male, they don’t mind showing their emotions, and they especially don’t have much of an ego. It’s part of what makes them so admirable!

15. Good conversationalist

You shouldn’t be shocked at this sign, but an omega male makes for the best conversationalist! While they hate small talk, they’re very engaging and entertaining to talk to.

Since he’s also a deep thinker, most conversations you have with one are very well-thought and unique. He’ll talk about anything and everything with you, whatever comes to the top of his mind.

So, what is an omega male?

Both the alpha and the omega man have their own redeeming qualities. However, because we live in a culture that highly values ultra-masculine traits, sometimes the omega male gets overlooked.

This is a shame, because as you can see from these signs, an omega male can be a great person to be friends with, be married to, or just to have as a friendly neighbor.

Just because someone doesn’t stand out in a crowd doesn’t mean they are any less important. As you can see above with these traits, the omega male is pretty awesome to be around!
