Jack Black Takes Action After Kyle Gass Jokes About Donald Trump Shooting

On Saturday, a 20-year-old gunman, who the FBI later identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire at a Donald Trump rally, striking the former President's right ear with a bullet. One rallygoer was killed, and two others are in critical condition. The Secret Service also shot and killed Crooks on site.

One day after the incident, during a concert on Sunday, Kyle Gass of Tenacious D, Jack Black's band, faced backlash for making a controversial joke about the attempted assassination.

While Kyle Gass has not commented on the backlash, Jack Black has broken his silence on the Donald Trump shooting joke and has decided to cancel the rest of the Tenacious D tour.

During their performance at the ICC Sydney Theatre, Jack Black presented his Tenacious D bandmate, Kyle Gass, with a birthday cake. “Make a wish,” Black said. After blowing out the candles, Gass said, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” causing a mixed reaction from the audience.

“You could hear a couple of ‘oohhs’ — like too soon sort of vibes — but the vast majority was laughter,” one audience member told Yahoo News.

After the video circulated on social media, Gass faced backlash for his comment about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Two days after Kyle Gass made the joke, his bandmate and "Kung Fu Panda" actor Jack Black has broken his silence.

"I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form," the actor said in a statement provided to The Blast. "After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding."

Over the weekend, chaos erupted at a Donald Trump rally held in Pennsylvania after several shots were heard just moments after the former President took the stage. One of the shots grazed Trump's right ear, leaving his face bloodied.

“We are working hard to determine the sequence of events related to the subject and his movements in the hours, days and weeks prior to the shooting,” Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office said." We’re still very early in this investigation.”

Jack Black has been very outspoken about his political views, consistently supporting President Joe Biden in the upcoming election.

Most recently, at a high-profile fundraising event held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles last month, Black doubled down on his political stance.

"George Clooney and Julia Roberts wanted me to help out the President and speak here tonight, and I said, 'I am in, when and where?'" Black told the audience before adding, "My President needs me."

On Sunday, the FBI told the public that they found an AR-15 style rifle at the scene. Law enforcement confirmed it was purchased legally by his father. They also revealed that the gunman had left explosive materials in the vehicle he drove to the event.

Crooks was shot and killed by Secret Service agents moments after he began firing.

According to the New York Times, his parents are both licensed counselors and his father worked at a local behavioral health provider.

Donald Trump Breaks His Silence

Following the incident, the former President shared a statement on his Truth Social page, thanking law enforcement and the Secret Servce.

"I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania," Trump wrote on Truth Social following the incident. "Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured."

He made his first public appearance since a shooter tried to assassinate him on Monday at the Republican convention hall. The former President's right ear was bandaged.
