Once again, Will Smith has proved that his acting skills are worthy of accolades!

For years, the actor, rapper, and film producer has dominated the entertainment industry as one of its iconic members; however, the 53-year-old hasn’t done it all.

On Sunday, January 9, the odds were finally in favor of the “After Earth” actor, who received his first Golden Globes Award after being nominated five times in the past.

In 1993 and 1994, the father-of-three lost two Golden Globes nominations for his role on the famous comedy series, “The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.”

These losses were followed by another in 2002 when the rapper-turned-actor was nominated for his moving portrayal of the iconic boxer, Muhammad Ali

The “Men In Black” star was also nominated in 2007 and 2016 for “The Pursuit Of Happyness” and “Concussion,” which he also lost. However, the tides changed with his sixth Golden Globes nomination.

Smith defeated an impressive list of nominees, including Denzel Washington, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Javier Bardem, for the prestigious best actor in a motion picture award.

The renowned entertainer was honored for his emotional portrayal of Richard Williams, father of the tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams, in the 2021 biopic, “King Richard.”

The movie, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and produced by the Grand Slam Sisters, showcased Richard’s plan to shape his daughters into Tennis stars when they were just children.

The “Aladdin” star’s exceptional performance stole the hearts of viewers and Rotten Tomatoes critics, who gave the actor an impressive 90% rating.

Facts About The Iconic Movie “King Richard”

Last November, The Blast shared interesting facts about the biopic “King Richard,” including the true focus of the emotional rollercoaster.

The biopic centralized on Richard’s desire to create a better life for his children by training his daughters to become professional tennis players, despite being a “predominantly white male sport.”

The father’s desire to take his family out of their Compton neighborhood turned him into a demanding, relentless, and overbearing person as he tried everything to achieve this goal.

The basis of “King Richard” wasn’t about how Venus and Serena became the undisputed champions they are today but the story of their father, who inspired them to play tennis.

Last year, The Blast shared the exciting news of a special “Red Table Talk” episode, which featured the first-ever appearance of the Williams family on the show.

This exclusive interview was conducted by the “Focus” star rather than the show’s usual hosts —  the actor’s wife Jada, their daughter Willow and his mother-in-law Adrienne Banfield-Norris.

Serena took to Instagram with a sneak peek of the episode, revealing that she attended the interview alongside Venus and their mother.

The footage also captured the family in tears as they got candid about their struggles, some of which were shown in “King Richard.”
