WrestleMania ‘Backlash’: Predictions & Previews For WWE Mother’s Day Event

Mother’s Day is going to have a different look this year as the WWE presents their next premium live event, WrestleMania Backlash which streams live on Peacock in the United States and the WWE Network everywhere else at 8 ET/5 PT on Sunday, May 8th.

Along with the action in the ring that will have all your favorite WWE Superstars, make sure to also tune in to the WrestleMania Backlash Kickoff show this Sunday beginning at 7 ET/4 PT on WWE.com, Peacock, and WWE social platforms, including TikTok. The show will give you all the last-minute analysis for the night’s must-see action.

And speaking of analysis and action, most of the matches scheduled on the big night, minus a few, are rematches from WrestleMania that happened back on April 2nd & 3rd in Dallas. So will it be more of the same results or will Superstars like Seth Rollins, Omos, and Ronda Rousey avenge their losses with victories of their own? Here are our predictions.

WrestleMania Backlash Match Card

Six-Man Tag Team Match

The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Usos will battle Drew McIntyre and Raw Tag Team Champions Randy Orton and Riddle, better known as RK-Bro.

Prediction: Clearly the night’s main event pits many of the WWE Universe’s best against each other. No championships are on the line, but when a match like this involves the likes of Reigns, Orton, McIntyre and the others. It is still a big fight feel. The absolute roll that Reigns and The Usos, known as The Bloodline have been on can’t currently be matched. It would almost seem like a complete guarantee that they would come out victorious but this also might be the right time to show some bruising to the egos of Reigns and The Usos and that could be done by losing this match. That would then make McIntyre have the chance to get back into the title picture by getting a pinfall victory on Reigns. That would strike instant fear into ‘The Tribal Thief’ upon having a future one-on-one battle with ‘The Scottish Psychopath’. Will it happen? Most likely McIntyre will get the pinfall on one of The Usos, which will instead embarrass Reigns and will lead into fighting McIntyre on a future show, likely WWE Hell in a Cell. McIntyre will get the victory for his team after applying his finisher, the vicious Claymore Kick and pinning Jey Uso.

WrestleMania Rematch

‘The American Nightmare,’ Cody Rhodes, takes on ‘The Visionary’ Seth Rollins in a well-anticipated rematch from WrestleMania where Rhodes made his gallant return to the WWE.

Prediction: Now that Rollins knows what he is getting into and who he will be facing, as it was a surprise at WrestleMania, will he be able to turn that loss he got against Rhodes into a major victory of his own that would inevitably lead to the rubber match? We see it two ways here, Rhodes is just coming back from his stint with rival wrestling organization, AEW and the WWE has put the rocket ship on his back that potentially will lead Rhodes to be the future Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Having Rhodes lose now would be a mistake but if they want to continue this feud and have the blowoff match at Hell in a Cell, they might give into having Rhodes lose here and try to find out that he is vulnerable and show how he has to change his ways to eventually get a match with whomever the champion will be. Two unique storylines could be taken from this match, Rhodes remaining invincible or Rhodes not being the man he thinks he is and one who would have to fight his way back to prove to himself and all the naysayers that he can be someone worthy to be a future champion. We lean back to having Rhodes losing here to be a big mistake, so look for Rhodes to win this match by disqualification as Rollins will get frustrated by not figuring out how to beat Rhodes, which would continue the feud and protect everyone moving forward so no one loses steam and would give them the opportunity to fight again. Though we would love Rhodes to get a decisive win, we’ll take what we can get.

SmackDown Women’s Championship “I Quit” Match

SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair defends her championship against UFC legend Ronda Rousey in a WrestleMania rematch.

Prediction: Rousey is looking for some revenge here against one of the most decorated WWE Superstars of all time in Charlotte Flair who was victorious over Rousey at WrestleMania, and the rules of this match might make Rousey’s mission that much easier. Being in a match where you have to have your opponent quit is right up Rousey’s alley since she has an array of submission maneuvers to get things done. Flair for her part has her finisher which is also a submission, The Figure 8 Leg Lock. It would be quite a shock to allow Rousey to lose two big matches in a row especially hearing Rousey say the words, ”I Quit” would be even more surprising. Look for Rousey to lock Flair in an unbreakable armbar submission to not only win the match but win the championship.

More Matches And Predictions

WrestleMania Rematch – Edge’s Partner Damian Priest Barred From Ringside

AJ Styles vs. Edge

Prediction: Edge’s partner Damian Priest’s interference cost AJ Styles a win over Edge at WrestleMania but now that Priest will be barred from ringside, that would make you assume that Styles is in the driver’s seat. But this allows for new people to help Edge or a well-timed ref bump to take place that could also allow Priest to come down anyways to help Edge who would then provide a spear to AJ Styles for the pinfall victory. Edge will continue his dominance in his new bad guy heel persona.

WrestleMania Rematch

‘The Almighty’ Bobby Lashley will take on ‘The Collossus’ Omos in a WrestleMania rematch.

Prediction: This match many might think will be a disaster as both these men have drastically different wrestling styles and abilities in the ring. Omos, though a giant of a man has very limited ability in the ring as he is still looking to reach his full potential. Lashley, a former WWE Champion in his own right is well more accomplished in the squared circle. If they make the match short and filled with power moves it might actually be better than it has any right to be. There likely will be lots of outside interference from Bobby Lashley’s former manager and now manager of Omos, MVP. And that might be the catalyst for Omos to pull out the victory. Omos needs the win more, they have to continue making him a monster so with the help of outside interference from MVP and a devastating power slam and chokeslam combination. Omos should pull off the pinfall victory to continue his rampage over the WWE locker room.

Singles Match

Happy Corbin will take on former friend and current Andre the Giant Battle Royal Winner Madcap Moss.

Prediction: People are going to go into this match instantly hating it. There is a vendetta against these two because people either don’t like these two wrestlers or more importantly they don’t like their gimmicks. When it comes to Happy Corbin, he has consistently been in important matches where he has won more times than not. Madcap Moss on the other hand is at the cusp of a change. The former lackey of Corbin has been having a winning streak of late and if it were to continue it could make Moss a threat in the next future months for one of the secondary titles that happen to be in the WWE. Could this be the coming-out party for Moss? We think it will be after a hard-fought back-to-back battle with Corbin. Moss should pull of the pinfall victory but get beat up afterward to continue the feud.

What is clearly going to be a great night for the WWE Universe, WrestleMania Backlash should lead to many more amazing stories along the way as we get into the summer months of WWE programming. We anticipate this to be a great show but it also might be a temporary filler as we get to their bigger shows like Hell In A Cell on June 5th and Money in the Bank on July 2nd.
