Alicia Keys has been happily married for more than a decade to Kasseem Daoud David, professionally known as Swizz Beatz, and it seems there is a secret behind their blissful union.
Fans are aware that the couple who shares two sons has been going strong since 2010, and now Keys is revealing how they are able to achieve that even with the typical challenges that come with marriage.
Alicia Keys Says ‘Carving Out Time’ Kept Her Marriage Fruitful For 12 Years
Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Keys dropped tips on how she and her longtime partner made their marriage work despite their busy careers. “Really carving out time for each other,” she said. “We all struggle with it. There’s so much balance. There’s so much to do.”
The brilliant pianist continued, “You find yourself running and doing the things for school, for the kids, and doing all the things for your lists, for all the dreams you have in your career, and what you have to do next.”
She believed the time someone has with their partner was “so priceless,” and to carve out the time and make it as important as “those daily things” reflected positively on the relationship.
“You remember why you are in love,” she elucidated. “You remember why you just like each other, what’s interesting about each other.
Keys and Beatz initially met when they were 14 and 16, respectively, after being introduced by a mutual high school friend. At the time, the “Fallin” songstress was not interested in the rapper romantically and it stayed that way in the following years.
According to her autobiographical book “More Myself,” the duo ended up in the same circles and at several awards shows and events. However, Keys still did not want anything to do with the record producer.
She wrote, “He’d usually pull up in some fancy car, rolling deep with his Bronx crew and shining diamonds. I wanted nothing to do with that scene or with Swizz.”
However, things began changing when the New York City natives partnered on a music project years later, causing the “Diary” singer to realize there was more depth to Beatz.
“The more we talked, the more I noticed how his mind worked,” she confessed. “Beyond the baggy jeans and arm tats, there was depth. He was so aware of what was happening around the world.”
The couple eventually formed a cordial relationship before getting romantically involved, which led up to Beatz proposing in 2010 and their marriage that same year in Corsica.
Meanwhile, this year will mark their 13th wedding anniversary, which fans expect will be celebrated in style similar to last year’s milestone. As The Blast reported during the lovebirds’ 12th wedding anniversary, Keys went back in time with a series of beautiful black and white pictures on Instagram from their wedding ceremony.
In the caption, she celebrated their love with heartwarming words, beginning with: “This is the day we got married! Look at these cute pies!! Those same stars are still in our eyes, And it’s only getting better!!!!”
The 42-year-old added more affectionate notes indicating the pair love each other “with open arms” and “an open heart” and grow together despite their “different ways and directions.”
After describing themselves as “best friends,” Keys concluded, “There’s NOTHING more precious than this! I wake up looking forward to you everyday! Forevermore.”
The Keep A Child Alive Founder Was Celebrated By Her Loving Husband On Her 42nd Birthday
Earlier this year, Keys marked her 42nd birthday with none other than her husband and his swooning romantic gesture in the form of music. The renowned producer dropped a mashup video on Instagram featuring the celebrant vibing to some songs playing in the background including Frank Ocean’s “Chanel,” Sir’s “D’Evils,” and Bhad Bhabie’s “Hi Bich.”
Beatz did not stop there but added a lovely tribute in the caption: “It’s a real Goddess Birthday @aliciakeys we love you beyond the Zone, You’re a gift to this world #FACTS #HappyAliciaDay.”
The Full Surface Records founder dropped another clip in which he dedicated a song by Marv MIlly to his wife. The piece included a remix of a few of Keys’ greatest hits alongside a rap verse about her.
Beatz then took to the caption to wish his woman a happy birthday and “many, many more years of greatness and epic blessings.”
