Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner and more celebrities suggested that the Fourth of July should be “canceled” this year amid the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The reality stars were among a slew of A-listers who took to social media on Monday to address the disparity between Independence Day and the lack of independence women now have over their own bodies amid the controversial decision.
“4th of July has been canceled due to a shortage of Independence. Sincerely, Women,” a post from @bitton, which was shared to both of their Instagram Stories, read.
A number of other celebrities shared the same pink-and-black text graphic, including “Succession” star J. Smith-Cameron.
Meanwhile, Katy Perry referenced her hit song “Firework” to make a bold statement regarding women’s rights on Twitter.
“‘Baby you’re a firework’ is a 10 but women in the US have fewer rights than an actual sparkler smh,” she wrote.

“Happy ‘Independence’ Day from me and my reproductive rights,” she sarcastically captioned the post.
Activist Jameela Jamil also weighed in, offering some strong words on her various social media platforms.
“Independence Day, unless you have a uterus. Then go f–k yourself and we don’t care if you f–king die or if we derail your entire future and mental health-day I guess? Cool..”

“Today I carry both an abundance of gratitude and a swelling of anger. I know I share that with so many of you,” she wrote. “May we sustain our fury to propel this complicated country forward and not further backward.”
Since the landmark abortion law was overturned last month, many celebrities have spoken out in support of a woman’s right to choose, with many stars – like Meadow Walker, Halsey and Lily Allen – sharing their own abortion stories.

Sharing the post to her Instagram Stories, Stoner added, “Anyone else find it hard to tap into the ‘holiday’ spirit when this is the reality in front of us?”
