Per an interview with Cosmopolitan, Ryan Guzman relayed his experience in the production of “The Boy Next Door.” He began by saying he loved how the film’s opening credits started. Director Rob Cohen opened with Guzman’s bicep shot, and the actor was thrilled about it. “Rob Cohen knows how to shoot a bicep, doesn’t he?” noted Guzman. “He made me look really good.”
As the conversation transitioned to Guzman’s sex scene with actress Jennifer Lopez, he called it intimate rather than steamy. When asked why he chose to speak about the scene using specific words, Guzman explained the scene was deeper than two people having sex.
“Because it’s so much more than just a sex scene,” Guzman told Cosmopolitan. “That’s why I call it an ‘intimate scene.’ It’s more than just provocative or vulgar or anything like that. It’s sensual and suggestive and, as I said, intimate. The whole point of that scene is to lure this woman in by pleasing her, unlike any other man. And that’s why I refer to it as an ‘intimate scene,'” he concluded.
The Actor Was Nervous While Filming The Scene
Guzman also admitted that he was very nervous ahead of the sex scenes. “I finally had to go to her and say, ‘I’m nervous about this, this is the first time I’m getting naked in front of a bunch of people I don’t know,’ he shared.
Lopez was very supportive and was on hand to ease his fears. “She pulled me off to the side and told me, ‘It’s a part of the film industry, and we’re just telling a story. We have to tell it to the best of our ability.’ It had to have so much intensity and passion that the audience felt it. We wanted to make it memorable, and we did that.”
Although the whole sex scene was awkward, he knew it was essential to his character.
“Any intimacy that you think might be in the scene isn’t there. It’s all choreographed, and that’s our part as actors to develop that look of passion. We were so focused on making that scene so passionate because, without that scene, you have no movie. My character never would’ve done the things he did without having had that beautiful, life-changing, sensual, intimate, sexual experience like that.”
Lopez Hit Her Head While They Filmed The Scene
In an interview with People Magazine, Guzman shared the embarrassing details of how he injured Lopez while filming the sex scene.
“It was right before we got into the very, very steamy part of the film,” the actor explained to the outlet. “My character has to pick up Jennifer– and me being stupid, I put a little bit too much oomph into it.” He explained that the little oomph plunged her to the ceiling.
“Let’s say that the next couple takes, I was very, very gentle. She was a trooper. She hit her head, she came right back down, and she said, ‘Hey, I’m light. Just take it easy. You don’t need to muscle up.'”
MegaThe actor disclosed that apart from those unfortunate incidents, the rest of the scene went smoothly. His performance impressed his family, most especially his father.
“My dad went into a theater full of all my friends and family back home in Sacramento. Right around that part in the movie, he decided to get up and yell out, ‘That’s my boy!'”
The Sex Scene Was Essential
As explained by Director Cohen, the sex scene was one of the essential elements of the movie.
“For me, the two most important things were to have the most sexual love scene that a movie star has done.”
He explained the plot, which follows the story of a high school teacher who becomes romantically involved with her student and neighbor only to realize that his obsession had a dangerous consequence.
“Then I wanted to have a climax that was truly the kind of violence that would emerge out of this situation,” he continues. “Sex, obsession, violence. That, to me, was the most interesting emotional path of the film.”

Guzman debuted his acting career in the 2012 movie “Step Up Revolution,” where he played Sean. The following year, he appeared in “Pretty Little Liars” and played the role of Jake for nine episodes.
In 2014, Guzman starred as Dylan in “Always Woodstock.” His other acting credits include “Heroes Reborn,” “Notorious,” and “9-1-1 Lonestar.”
When he appeared in “9-1-1 Lonestar,” he was thrilled at the prospect of his Eddie Diaz character. “I don’t know if I was completely prepared for what was going to ensue, but I was also ready to dive headfirst into this character and get to understand this character on a different level.”
