Jessica Chastain, Katy Perry & More Declare ‘Independence’ Day ‘Canceled’

Celebrities like Jessica ChastainKaty Perry, the Kardashians, and more are not celebrating the Fourth of July this year.

Late last month, the Supreme Court decided to overturn Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed abortion rights to women. Ever since then, horror stories have been breaking in the news, from a woman being forced to continue an unviable pregnancy until it died inside of her, to a 10-year-old rape victim unable to get an abortion.

With it becoming harder and harder for women to get basic healthcare in many states, many women – and men too! – feel like their freedom is under attack and are finding little to celebrate this Independence Day.

Jessica Chastain Flips Off The Camera: ‘Happy ‘Independence’ Day from me and my reproductive rights’

On Monday, the Academy Award-winning actress took to Instagram and flipped off the camera. “Happy ‘Independence’ Day from me and my reproductive rights,” she captioned the snap.

John Russo commented, “D— right sister.”

“THAT’S MY GIRL,” another commented.

“Seems ironic,” another follower agreed. “‘Independence Day.’ What a joke!”

Katy Perry Goes Off Like A Firework On Women’s Rights

“Roar” singer Katy Perry definitely made her voice heard on Monday when she tweeted the lyrics to her own song, “Firework.”

“‘Baby you’re a firework’ is a 10 but women in the US have fewer rights than an actual sparkler smh,” she tweeted.

Some fans didn’t seem to understand what she was trying to say, so one fan spelled it out: “she means playing firework the 4th of july is fine and whatever but there’s nothing to celebrate when guns have more rights than women in the US.”

“The US truly isn’t free until its people have the freedom to choose what they do with their bodies,” another follower commented. “I’m devastated for women in the US. Not that it makes much difference, but this Brit fully supports the freedom of choice for women everywhere.”

Zooey Deschanel Urges America To ‘Do Better’

“New Girl” actress Zooey Deschanel took to Instagram to share a photo of her wearing a tee-shirt that read “Pro 1973 Roe.”

“For when you want to wish America a happy birthday, but also want her to do better,” Zooey captioned the snap.

She also shared a quote from the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg: “The decision whether or not to bear a child is central to a woman’s life, to her well-being and dignity. It is a decision she must make for herself. When Government controls that decision for her, she is being treated as less than a fully adult human responsible for her own choices.”

“Let this be a hopeful reminder that together, we have the power to reclaim our right to choose,” she added, sharing a long list of organizations for fans to follow, share resources from, or donate to if they are able.

She disabled comments on the post, but it still managed to get over 50,000 likes in only a few hours!
