‘Good Burger 2’ Is Finally Happening With Kenan & Kel

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the film has been greenlit by Nickelodeon Studios and Paramount+. The film will see Thompson and Mitchell reprise their respective original roles from the first film as Dexter Reed and Ed.

Thompson commented on the 25 years since the original film’s release, “I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger!” He continued, “Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal!”

Meanwhile, Mitchell stated during the show, “Ed is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans, and it’s such a beautiful blessing to still be doing it after all these years.” He added, “It’s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids.”

THR notes that the new film will see the duo reuniting in the present day at the fast-food restaurant Good Burger with a new group of employees. Phil Traill (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Single Drunk Female”) is directing the sequel. Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert (“All That” and “Good Burger”) will write and executive produce the project.

Seifert was also a co-writer of the original 1997 film. Production on “Good Burger 2” will start later this May, and it’s reportedly slated to premiere before the end of the year.

The original film was first released in July 1997. It was based on the comedy sketches from the Nickelodeon sketch show, “All That,” which originally ran from 1994 to 2000 on Nickelodeon. “All That” later relaunched, running from 2002-2005. The latest revival of the show ran from 2019-2020. The “Good Burger” film was a hit, grossing over $23 million off an $8.5 million budget.

Thompson and Mitchell worked so well together on “All That” that producers eventually put together their own sitcom for them. They later starred in the “Kenan & Kel” show, which ran from 1996-2000 on Nickelodeon for four seasons and 65 episodes.

As previously reported by The Blast, Kenan & Kel reunited for more “Good Burger” sketches during the 2019 revival series. And now they will be back once again in a sequel to their iconic 1990s movie. The duo also reunited for another sketch based on “Good Burger” back in September 2015, which ran on “The Tonight Show.” So, it’s rather appropriate that the actors made the announcement of the sequel with Jimmy Fallon this week.

“Good Burger 2” does not yet have an official release date, but it’s currently in the works for Paramount+. It will stream exclusively on the platform later this year.
