Man charged over €1.18 million cannabis seizure in Kilkenny

He will appear in court this evening.


A man has been charged in connection with the seizure of €1.18 million of cannabis – subject to analysis – following a Garda operation that took place in Kilkenny on Thursday, 7 October.

The man, aged in his 40s, will appear before a special sitting of Gorey District Court on Saturday at 5pm.

A second man, aged in his 20s, was released without charge on Friday night.


The arrests were made in relation to ongoing investigations targeting individuals suspected to be involved with an organised crime group operating in the Kilkenny area.


During the course of Thursday's operation, personnel attached to the Revenue Customs Service and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau seized 59 kilograms worth of cannabis with an estimated street value of €1.18 million.


Gardaí subsequently arrested the two men in question, having intercepted their vehicle at the scene.


Investigations are ongoing.
