Matthew McConaughey was set to star in an upcoming film, “Dallas Sting”, based on a true story. Despite being just weeks away from production, the film is now being scrapped due to Skydance and the producers receiving “disturbing allegations” surrounding aspects of the true story.
Matthew McConaughey’s True Story Film, “Dallas Sting” Scrapped
MEGAMatthew McConaughey was set to star in the inspirational drama, “Dallas Sting”, based on the true story of a Dallas girls’ soccer team that traveled to China and defeated some of the best women’s teams in the world, despite facing setbacks. McConaughey was to take on the role of coach Bill Kinder, who helped lead the soccer team to beating Australia, Japan, China and Italy in the championship game.
Kaitlyn Dever, known for her roles in “Booksmart” (2019), “Dopesick” (2021), and will star in the upcoming George Clooney and Julia Roberts’ romantic comedy, “Ticket to Paradise” (2022), was set to star alongside McConaughey as the coach’s daughter.
The true story film was only six weeks out from starting production and was almost fully cast, however, sources say Skydance and the producers are now receiving “disturbing allegations” surrounding aspects of the true story. There is an ongoing investigation, which ultimately led Skydance and the producers to scrap the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “A source close to the decision noted Skydance and the producers were disappointed by the development, as they felt the story of the 1984 team and its young players deserved to be told.”
In fact, the production team took this film very seriously and even spent a decent amount of time, effort, and money on a process that could help find the actual soccer players to get as close to the true story as possible.
What Were the “Disturbing Allegations”?
MEGAThe allegations were against Bill Kinder, the soccer coach that led the team to victory and was set to be played by McConaughey.
According to The Daily Mail, a letter, which “had some information in it that was pretty cryptic”, was sent to the production company which accused Kinger, 83, of inappropriate behavior with the girls. Per their exclusive interview:
In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Kinder, 83, said an unknown accuser sent a letter to Skydance claiming he ‘touched someone outside their clothes’ around 40 years ago, and called his players inappropriate nicknames.
Kinger told The Daily Mail that there were two things in the letter, “That we all used nicknames, and that 40 years ago, I touched someone outside their clothes.
Kinder denies the claims and even spoke to investigators hired by the production company, who allegedly told him “there was nothing there”, so when he found out the movie was scrapped, he was shocked.
“And they’ve all reported back to me that there was nothing,” he said. “No one knows of anything specific that ever happened. There was nothing there, nothing ever happened. It’s disappointing news because we all felt everything was just being investigated as it should and there wasn’t anything there, so it wasn’t a big deal.”
