Friday. The new season of The Late Late Show is upon us, as is some very September-appropriate weather.

Also on the weekend agenda? Movies, and plenty of them.

Here's the most engaging options on the box for this evening...

Goodbye Christopher Robin – Film 4 – 6.50pm

Domhnall Gleeson stars as writer A.A. Milne, also known as the man who created Winnie-the-Pooh, in this sensitive biopic. Margot Robbie, Kelly McDonald and Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge provide company.

Suburbicon – RTÉ 2 – 9pm

George Clooney directs Matt Damon as a mild-mannered father who must face up to his demons after a home invasion rocks his previously peaceful neighbourhood.

Suicide Squad – ITV2 – 9pm

In our possibly ironic pick for the evening, it's time to revisit the first outing for the ill-fated Suicide Squad. The new one has definitely fared better with critics, but have we been unkind to the 2017 vintage?

No, not really. It's a mess. But it's a genuinely fascinating one in which studio interference – and wild editing choices – and Jared Leto's controversial Joker interpretation all clash in obnoxious fashion. This is a film in which Will Smith's character is introduced a grand total of three times.

Look, it's not good. But it is certainly unique. Enjoy?

Copycat – TCM – 9pm

Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter try to catch a dangerous killer.

War for the Planet of the Apes – Film 4 – 9pm

The thrilling conclusion to the recent reboot trilogy finds Andy Serkis' super-intelligent primate Caesar once again under attack as he tries to protect his family. Woody Harrelson's gung-ho military commander leads the charge.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – TG4 – 9.05pm

Sergio Leone's classic spaghetti western finds Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach duking it out over buried treasure. Your dad's favourite film, basically.

Anna – Virgin Media One – 10pm

Sasha Luss headlines as the titular assassin who becomes one of the world's most fearsome killers. Cillian Murphy, Luc Besson and Helen Mirren are in support.

Die Another Day – ITV4 – 10.10pm

We've previously described this as the worst Bond film ever made.

It's probably fair to stand by that, but it's also worth noting that it's totally bonkers. Shocking CGI, an invisible car, a villain with diamonds embedded in his face, another villain with some kind of Nintendo Power Death Glove, another villain named 'Mr Kill', Michael Madsen for no reason and Pierce Brosnan briefly sporting a Charles Manson-esque look. The War of the Roses – RTÉ One – 11.25pm

Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner star as a seemingly perfectly-married couple. When harmony fades, a most bitter divorce battle begins. Danny DeVito co-stars and directs, the talented fellow.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Film 4 – 11.45pm

A stunning misfire in which Hugh Jackman's rogue drifter undergoes severe trauma en route to becoming the iconic invincible warrior we all know and love. Worth watching purely for the 'so bad it's good' unintentional comedy elements. Logan, this ain't.
