Ricky Martin Hit With Domestic Abuse Restraining Order In Puerto Rico

The King of Latin Music Ricky Martin has been slapped with a restraining order!

Enrique Martín Morales is an entertainer of Puerto Rican descent who has achieved recognition for his achievements as a singer, songwriter, and actor.

The 50-year-old recently got in trouble with the law after the Puerto Rico Police Bureau confirmed they had issued a protection order against the Latin Popstar on Saturday, June 2.

According to NOTICEL, a Puerto Rican news outlet, the local authorities issued a restraining order against Martin after an unnamed petitioner accused the “Falta Amor” artist of domestic violence.

Aside from the Puerto Rico Police protecting the alleged victim’s identity, this case was rather unusual as the individual went directly to the court to file the protection request without the support of law enforcers

Normally, filing the request through authorities would only be approved after it has been determined that there was enough evidence to file charges.

Instead, the Court of First Instance of San Juan notified the Billboard chart-topper about the petition and subpoenaed him on the protection order at a later date after it was issued by a Judge named Raiza Cajigas Campbell.

Surprisingly, the news outlet confirmed that local authorities have received any formal complaints about the victim’s alleged abuse, presumably the reason for the individual’s decision to file his/her petition at the courthouse.

On the bright side, there does not seem to be any trouble in the AMA winner’s marital home as the source learned that the restraining order was not requested by Jwan Yosef, Martin’s husband.

Nonetheless, the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer was not enjoying the best month of his life as the dubbed King of Latin Music kept getting slapped with legal issues.

Before the domestic violence matter came to light, the Puerto Rican native was experiencing a tough time after being sued for more than $3 million by his former manager, Rebecca Drucker.

The plaintiff filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Central District Court, where she accused the Latin heartthrob of owing her millions in unpaid commissions.

According to the legal documents, Martin allegedly forced Drucker to resign in April of this year after “manipulating, regularly lying, and underpaying” his ex-manager for her services and contributions to his success.

These allegations against the Emmy nominee were unflattering, to say the least, but The Ricky Martin Foundation owner believed the truth would set him free.

In a statement addressed to E! News, a spokesperson for the singer refuted the domestic violence accusations, noting that the “Me” author planned on proving his innocence in court.

“The allegations against Ricky Martin that led to a protection order are completely false and fabricated,” the message read, emphasizing that the artist was confident he would be “fully vindicated” of the alleged crimes.

Although authorities have withheld the victim’s name for their safety, a Puerto Rican newspaper claimed that the petitioner dated the Lo Nuestro Award winner for seven months until the individual ended the relationship two months ago.

Martin allegedly did not accept the separation, going as far as harassing the person with frequent calls, and was caught loitering around the victim’s residence at least three times.

According to the source, the individual’s temporary protection order would expire on July 21, which marked the same date as the domestic violence hearing.

The Billboard Music Award Winner Began His Successful Career As An Actor

As previously reported by The Blast, before Martin became known for his soulful voice, the 50-year-old entered the entertainment industry as an actor by shooting TV commercials from a young age.

This led to his performance in Mexican soap operas in the early 90s until the singer got his first major as Miguel Morez on “General Hospital” and two successful acts on Broadway’s “Les Misérables” and “Evita.”

However, the Popstar confessed during a candid interview that his acting gigs may have stopped because of the backlash he received after coming out as gay in 2010.

Martin noted that someone from his record label once revealed that the Latino could have sold more albums if he had not announced his sexuality. But, the father-of-four still hoped to return to the acting scene.
