Federal Judge ruled Friday that Texas may seek content moderation files from Facebook or Twitter.

“The ruling allows Paxton to seek documents and depose employees at members of NetChoice and Computer & Communications Industry Association — but only if they’ll be impacted by the law barring platforms from suspending users over their political views. Former President Donald Trump and Texas Governor Greg Abbott are two prominent Republicans who support social media reform. They also call for harsher penalties for Big Tech companies that discriminate in censoring content.
“Texas passed a law prohibiting Facebook, Twitter & Google from removing conservative viewpoints,” Abbott tweeted” “They sued us. A federal judge has granted Texas permission to request internal documents regarding how they moderate content. It’s about to get interesting.”
Trade groups like NetChoice argue that the law, which is similar to Florida’s new free speech law, will force platforms to host extreme content they disagree with and said the discovery request was looked to “further antagonize” the trade groups.
