Whitney Cummings on dating funny women, her top underrated comedians

Who wouldn’t want to date a funny woman?

Stand-up comedian Whitney Cummings joined Jim Norton and Sam Roberts on SiriusXM’s Raw Dog Comedy to explain why she understands how some men may be intimidated by dating women funnier than them.

“The amount of times I’ve heard people I know, fairly well, tell me that they wouldn’t be able to date a funny woman,” radio host Sam Roberts admitted to the female comedian.

“Let’s be honest,” Cummings shot back. “There’s a difference between funny people, and people who think they’re funny.”

The jokester, who recently self-financed her fifth Netflix special, went on to explain her annoyance with people who are “always on” and forcing the jokes, arguing that people wouldn’t be as annoyed if they dated someone who knew how to get real laughs.

“You don’t want a girl doing bits at Applebees,” fellow comedian Jim Norton agreed.

Cummings would know what makes a funny woman- she’s hailed as the queen of comedy and is currently on her “TOUCH ME” stand-up tour, which spans 50 cities across North America.

As for the love life of Cummings herself, the “JOKES” producer is currently in a long-term relationship with Alex Barnes, a veterinarian she met during the start of the pandemic. During an appearance on LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, she revealed she serendipitously met Barnes when she brought in her dog for a visit.

Prior to dating Barnes, who is eight years her junior, Cummings was with advertising exec Miles Skinner. The pair was together for more than a year before the comedian announced their split on her podcast “Good for You.”

The 39-year-old, who originally got her start on MTV’s “Punk’d”, also took time on-air to share some of her top underrated comedians, which included former SNL member Jim Breuer and Boston comedian Paul Nardizzi.

Cummings latest special, “Whitney Cummings: JOKES”, was released this week and is available for streaming on Netflix.
